The Rooftop Cinema Club in Los Angeles will be playing classic movies from the 1950s to 2016 on the rooftop of the Ricardo Montalban Theater from Tuesday through Saturday at 8:15 p.m. until June 30.
The Club provides attendees with wireless headphones, blankets and deck chairs to watch films as the Los Angeles sun sets in the background.
“It is a great outdoors atmosphere in Hollywood with a concession stand and a bar. It’s something different to do in Hollywood,” Ricardo Ortiz, an employee for the Rooftop Cinema Club, said.
The Club is so popular that many dates have already been sold out. Every day it is open, different movies are played ranging in genres and years.
This event is only open to those 18 and older. However, use of the Rooftop Bar to drink is restricted to those 21 and older. The bar opens Tuesdays through Saturdays at 6 p.m. and closes at 11 p.m.
The Rooftop Cinema Club also takes place in two venues in New York and in four venues in London, with Los Angeles being the only west coast location. The event happens every year in all three cities ranging in times and movies. The Club’s main office is located in London, where the first venue was opened in Shoreditch.
The movies start at 8 p.m., but people are allowed to enter the rooftop at 6 p.m. for food and drink. The seats are first come, first served. The Club also offers loveseats for two people and a VIP area, added Ortiz. The loveseats can only be bought in pairs and include bottomless popcorn and a glass of prosecco, sparkling wine.
The headphones provided are supposed to submerge the viewers into the film and help them escape from the noises of the city. Some of the classic movies playing this spring are “Back to the Future,” “Dirty Dancing,” “Selena” and “Sunset Boulevard” as well as recent popular films like “La La Land,” “Moana,” “Rogue One” and “Moonlight.”
Tickets for the films are sold on their website, www.rooftopcinemaclub.com, which also provides information needed for current or future films and their showtimes. General admission is $19 and VIP admission tickets are $29. If there is a sold-out showing, they have a waitlist downstairs where people can enter right before the movie starts if there are any open seats left.
The Montalban Theater is located at 1615 Vine St., Los Angeles, CA 90028 at the intersection of Vine Street and Selma Avenue.
