The annual Mt. SAC Relays are being held from Thursday, April 13 through Saturday, April 15. Usually taking place on campus, the majority of the relays have been moved to El Camino College in Torrance. This is due to construction on the Hilmer Lodge Stadium grounds, which should take about three years to complete.
However, the hammer toss took place on campus because the event does not take place in a stadium. Schools from across North America arrived Thursday at Mt. SAC at 9:30 a.m. Gwendolyn Berry won Thursday afternoon’s women’s hammer toss invitational, and Diego del Real won the men’s competition.
The rest of the weekend’s events will take place at El Camino’s Murdock Stadium. Beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, spectators can arrive to watch warm-ups. The events officially begin at 6 p.m. and run through 10:40 p.m. The stadium is located at 16007 Crenshaw Blvd and is about a one hour and 40 minute drive south from Mt. SAC.
On Friday, the day begins at 10:30 a.m. with running events at El Camino. Spectators can arrive two hours early to pick up packets which include the locations and times of events for the day. Also at El Camino, the field events are set to begin at 11 a.m., and the day concludes at 11 p.m.
The last day of the Mt. SAC Relays is on Saturday, beginning with field events at 9 a.m. The running events are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. As with Friday, spectators may pick up information packets starting at 8 a.m. The weekend at El Camino officially wraps up at 10 p.m.
