Every week there’s something happening in the world of nerds. As summer is now with us, I’ll be focusing on roughly only four major bits of news each week. This week, I’m doing something slightly different, and will be giving a small review of what I think are the top summer animes on top of my usual stuff. Let’s get started!
If you’ve ever wondered what makes esports so exciting, this is the tournament to watch. EVO will be streaming their entire competition live on their Twitch channel starting at 8 a.m. on Friday and will span the whole weekend until the finals matches in the previously mentioned games on Sunday. EVO is where some of the most iconic moments in esports history have occurred. Moments such as Hungrybox resetting the tournament bracket and winning it all against Armada in Super Smash Bros. Melee at EVO 2016. Or of course, Daigo parrying Justin’s 15 hit special while only having one pixel of health and taking the game in probably the most iconic Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike moment back in 2004, shown below. Seriously, this is something you definitely won’t want to miss.

One of World of Warcraft’s biggest draws is the faction system. You choose your side, either you’re for the Alliance, which comprises of Humans, Night Elves, Dwarves and Gnomes among others, or you’re part of the Horde, with Orcs, Trolls, Tauren or Undead among others. And this is just the basic, tip of the iceberg if you will, as the story spans not just through all of World of Warcraft, but also from the previous RTS (real-time strategy) game, Warcraft. Most quick recaps of the full history of WoW on YouTube, will be over 50 minutes long, easily.
Anyways, enough about that. Recently, with the new expansion being just around the corner (August 14), Horde fans are left fighting not the Alliance (which is a big part of the new expansion) but rather each other, with the new quest lines leading to the expansion showing us new cinematics of the unfolding story.
In one such cinematic, Lady Sylvanas Windrunner, the Horde’s new warchief, basically massacres innocents and burns down the world tree, Teldrassil, which is a pretty big deal in the lore of WoW as it’s home to the Night Elves. After just having kicked out one crazy warchief, many in the Horde are pissed, as they feel that who would really follow a new crazy warchief after all that’s happened recently.
I guess we’ll have to wait and see if Sylvanas chose correctly, or if many #NotMyWarchief Horde players will be making the switch to Alliance. Even characters who have been a big part of the lore, war wise, have shown their concerns:
War has a way of wearing down the most weathered soldiers.
For Varok Saurfang, this one could very well be his last. pic.twitter.com/QiJOCkEUpo

Who would’ve thought that a miniature box emulator preloaded with 30 of Nintendo’s oldest games, would be selling like hotcakes.
Granted, you can’t add more games to your NES Classic (unless you mod it of course), so what you buy is what you get, but this just goes to show the power of nostalgia… and how the Nintendo 64 and GameCube Classic should be release next.
