Dance, wine, galleries, and jazz. While these might sound like things just for the Los Angeles elite, the reality is even local community colleges like Mt. SAC offer events for those interested in the fine arts. Beat the LA traffic and get in with the culture right around the corner. This upcoming fall 2019 season, Mt. SAC will be holding multiple nighttime events open to the public so everyone can take part in the arts.
Faculty Jazz Concert
If smooth jazz tunes are in all of your playlists, then the Faculty Jazz Concert hosted by the music department on campus is your scene. It will begin on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 7:30 p.m. in the Feddersen Recital Hall located next to Kerr’s Corner. The concert will feature guest Bob Sheppard, a saxophone player who has worked with artists such as Joni Mitchell and Steely Dan. For jazz enthusiasts and those wanting to expand their music taste, this is not an event to miss. No need to RSVP; the event is free for everyone.
Dance Concert
Want to get in touch with your artsy side, or looking for a new date night idea? The Repertory Dance Concert, following a gallery exhibit and reception, is the perfect chance to venture into culture on campus. Held on Friday, Oct. 25, a reception in the courtyard outside of Berger Art Gallery will kick off the event. Hors d’oeuvres, drinks and wine will be served, and a gallery exhibit of Mt. SAC photography professor Jason Perez will follow at 6:30 p.m. The last part of the event is the dance concert itself at 8 p.m. and will take place in Clarke Theater. Tickets are $20; this price includes the reception, gallery and dance concert. RSVP to [email protected] by Monday, Oct. 21, to reserve your spot.
Choral Concert
Last but not least, the Mt. SAC Music Department is holding a Fall Choral Concert Nov. 1 and 2, at 7:30 p.m. in Feddersen Recital Hall on campus. Directors Bruce Rogers and William McIntosh will be leading the event, where the Mt. SAC Chamber Singers and Concert Choir will perform. For students with a valid Mt. SAC ID, tickets are $6, and non-student tickets are $14. You can buy them online here.
