Fantasy Football Start Sit Week 5
Fantasy football guide on who to start and who to sit for Week 5
A quarter of the fantasy football season has passed. By now league standings should reflect more or less how your fantasy football season will play out. With that being said, you shouldn’t give up hope if you aren’t in a playoff spot, there is still a ton of season left for you to climb up the leaderboard. Week 5 has some very favorable matchups that fantasy owners should take advantage of. This week’s start or sit picks are listed below.
Angel Romero’s pick
Start
James Robinson – running back- Jacksonville Jaguars – at Houston Texans
If you were one of the lucky fantasy owners to pick up rookie running back James Robinson, this should be a huge week for you. Robinson and the Jacksonville Jaguars play the Houston Texans who, according to Teamrankings.com, rank last against the run averaging 181.8 yards per game. Robinson has put up decent numbers at running back this season and it doesn’t look like he will be slowing down this week against the Texans.
Sit
Joe Mixon – running back – Cincinnati Bengals – at Baltimore Ravens
Joe Mixon was last week’s number one running back in fantasy football, but with a tough matchup against the Baltimore Ravens defense I recommend sitting him this week. The Ravens are the seventh ranked defense against the run which will prove to be a challenge for Mixon who has had a slow start to the season prior to last week’s explosion. Lamar Jackson and the Ravens offense will most likely take an early lead in the game that may limit the touches Mixon will get throughout the game.
Eric Tadeo’s picks
Start
Justin Jefferson – wide receiver – Minnesota Vikings – at Seattle Seahawks
Jefferson has been becoming a bigger part of the offense in Minnesota and this week he goes against the league’s worst passing defense. Seattle gives up over 400 passing yards a game. I would expect Jefferson to continue his coming out party this week against a soft Seattle defense that is playing without their starting strong safety Jamal Adams.
Sit
Julio Jones – wide receiver – Atlanta Falcons – vs Carolina Panthers
Jones has largely been a disappointment for fantasy owners this season. After a promising Week One, where he put up 157 receiving yards, Jones looked like he would still be productive this season even though he did not score a touchdown in Week One. Since then he has still not found the end zone or had more than 40 receiving yards in any other game. A big reason for that is due to injuries, but since you don’t know what he’s going to give you it’s best to sit him for maybe a couple of weeks.
Darrell Henderson Jr.- running back – Los Angeles Rams – at Washington Football Team
After a nice couple of games from Henderson he was held to just 21 rushing yards against the New York Giants. With the possibility of running back Cam Akers coming back Henderson may not get much playing time since the Rams will probably shuffle their running backs during the game to see who has the hot hand. I would expect Henderson to get less touches this week unless he gets hot. I would sit him if you have a better option available.
Jesse Espitia’s pick
Start
Amari Cooper – wide receiver – Dallas Cowboys – vs. New York Giants
The Dallas Cowboys have scored at least 30 points in their last three games. Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott leads the league in passing yards and has been playing out of his mind throwing for an average of 422.5 passing yards per game. Cooper should continue to benefit from Prescott’s smoking hot form against the Giants who are 0-4. Last week Cooper had 12 receptions for 134 receiving yards and a touchdown. Cooper was also targeted 16 times in the Week 4 loss to the Cleveland Browns, which was the most on the Cowboys receiving core. “A.C.” should have another big week in Week 5 against the Giants.
Start
Teddy Bridgewater- quarterback- Carolina Panthers- at Atlanta Falcons
The dual threat quarterback is a perfect go to option for fantasy owners needing a Week 5 replacement. Bridgewater’s matchup against Atlanta is favorable for owners considering the Falcons’ defense has been unable to stop anyone all year. According to stats on ESPN they give up the second most yards per game in the entire league at 448.3 yards per game, which should provide Bridgewater with an easy opportunity to score points. Bridgewater had 276 passing yards to go along with two touchdowns and an interception last week. The Panthers quarterback also scored a rushing touchdown in the Week 4 win over the Arizona Cardinals. The touchdowns should continue for Bridgewater in Week 5.
Sit
Derek Carr- quarterback- Las Vegas Raiders- at Kansas City Chiefs
Carr is playing in Week 5 against AFC West Division rivals and defending Super Bowl champions the Kansas City Chiefs. Physcologically, Carr has practically admitted defeat already when he was quoted earlier this week downplaying the rivalry by Adam Hill of the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
"If we're being honest, to make it a rivalry, we have to win some games." Derek Carr says about the rivalry with the Chiefs #Raiders
— Adam Hill (@AdamHillLVRJ) October 7, 2020
However, Carr does have a point. His record against the Chiefs is lousy. According to Kansascity.com, Carr is 2-10 in his career against the Chiefs. Kansas City, the defending Super Bowl champions, have also won nine out of the last 10 meetings with the Raiders.
In his defense, Carr has been playing well this season and has yet to throw an interception this year, but the gut feeling for Week 5 says that may change after this Sunday. Owners should bench Carr this week for a quarterback who has a better matchup.
