A student at California Polytechnic University, Pomona was found unresponsive in his dorm room Saturday, March 28 at a newly-built residence facility, Sicomoro Hall.
The cause of death was ruled a suicide by hanging, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner public records.
Students living in Sicomoro Hall were notified of the death that same morning, according to a tweet sent out by the school’s official Twitter account.
Another tweet from the school’s Twitter account stated that school officials only sent out an email to residents at Sicomoro Hall because this was an isolated incident, leaving the rest of the student body unnotified.
Andrew Alamo, 19, who is majoring in aerospace engineering and does not live in Sicomoro Hall, took to Twitter to express his concerns about the school’s notification to only residents of that facility.
This marks Cal Poly Pomona’s second on-campus death this academic school year.
Noah Kendrix, 24, was found unresponsive in his University Village dorm room on Feb. 6, 2020. The cause of death is still deferred pending additional investigation.
