When the pandemic first hit in March, many businesses were affected and had to shut down. The movie business in particular was affected as movie theaters had to close since the movie going experience did not abide by social distancing guidelines. As a result of movie theaters shutting down, release dates have been delayed since it was unknown when the movie-going experience would be safe again.

Movie studios decided to delay numerous release dates of certain films since their films would not have the ability to be viewed on the big screen. Fast forward to today, the pandemic is still ongoing; movie theaters have begun to slowly reopen and have set up safety procedures for all guests who come through their doors.

“It doesn’t really bother me all that much, to be honest. Sure it sucks having to wait so long for the movie to come out, but in my perspective, that just makes it more exciting to wait and see when the movie does come out in theaters,” Samuel Flores, 26, Mt. SAC Sign Language/Interpretation major, said. “Unfortunately, the only movie that I really wanted to see was ‘A Quiet Place Part II’ that was supposed to be released this year but got pushed back to next year,” Flores said.

Though some individuals find that the movie delays add to the excitement, others think otherwise. Some people look forward to certain movies for years, and these delays only keep them on standby for much longer than initially expected.

“A friend of mine is dying of cancer. He’s a massive movie guy and today he posted wondering if he would live long enough to see a movie he’s been waiting for be released because they pushed the release date back into 2021…” Twitter user @bearheadedgirl said.

Action-packed films like “Black Widow” and “James Bond” were originally set to premiere this year but were delayed and now won’t be released until 2021. Other films, including “A Quiet Place Part II,” “The Beatles Get Back,” “Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It,” and “Cruella” have also been pushed back to 2021. Not only have movies in 2020 had to be rescheduled for a later date, but movies that were initially set to be released in 2021 are being moved to 2022. A few of these films that are being delayed until 2022 are “Thor: Love and Thunder,” “Jurassic World: Dominion,” “The Batman,” “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” and the list goes on.
