Stabbing at West Covina Mall

Man charged with attempted murder after stabbing two at the West Covina Gold’s Gym

On March 30 at approximately 8:59 a.m. West Covina Police responded to a call at the West Covina Mall regarding a stabbing at the Gold’s Gym, which operates in the second floor of the parking structure located outside of the mall.

According to video footage taken of the altercation, the incident took place at the free weight section of the gym. Additional footage shows two men seeming to have a verbal dispute and standing very close to each other so as to intimidate one another, followed by a video in which a fight can be seen with men chasing each other and one man falling to the floor and another man pushing him back down and appearing to beat him as a gym member can be heard saying, “he pulled out a knife.”  A final video shows a trail of blood on the floor of the lot as people evacuated the area.

Upon arrival the officers were notified that the suspect had fled the scene in a vehicle prior to their arrival. Two stab victims were transported to a local hospital. One has been released from hospital care, and the other is reported to be in stable condition.

The suspect, 32-year-old Paul Quintero, was located in the area of West Covina Parkway and West Garvey Avenue by officers patrolling the area. Quintero was booked for attempted murder with bail set at $1,000,000.

Police have not released additional information involving the motive of the double stabbing.
