Top 2022 American Music Awards looks
What better place to steal a show than an award show
Red carpets are the perfect place for stars to show their creative sides in different ways. Artists like Anitta, Becky G, Charlie Puth and Sabrina Carpenter rocked the red carpet at the American Music Awards in their designer looks.
Award show aesthetics vary depending on the show. It’s known that most stars go for an old Hollywood look for committee-chosen award shows while keeping it modern for fan-voted shows like the American Music awards.
The American Music Awards have had plenty of iconic memories made on the red carpet in previous years, like Britney Spears’ and Justin Timberlake’s matching Canadian tuxedo moment from 2001 and Diana Ross’ metallic dress with her fur coat on top from 1984. However this year’s red carpet was underwhelming in comparison.
After watching the AMAs, here are my top looks of the night.
Roselyn Sanchez wore a stunning Falguni Shane Peacock dress. The Puerto Rican singer-songwriter was adorned in rhinestones and sequins.
Latin American singer Anitta shined on the red carpet in an outfit from Mugler. Anitta kept her hair simple and let her gown and accessories speak for themselves. The singer was nominated for “Favorite Female Latin Artist” and won against Becky G, Kali Uchis, Karol G and Rosalia.
Sabrina Carpenter wore an Oscar De La Renta crystal fringe set. The actress turned singer presented the “Favorite Music Video” category where she got to meet Taylor Swift.
Tinashe is next on my list wearing a Marc Jacobs ensemble. It seems that sets were a trend on this red carpet. Tinashe’s twist on the trend was that it pulled from the ‘90s grunge aesthetic and mixed it with glam.
Becky G went for a classic look in an all-black velvet Monsoori dress and Giuseppe platform heels. The dress had a massive bow on the shoulder that led into a dramatic trend. She was shining in Justdesi diamond earrings along with a diamond ring over her matching gloves. The singer was nominated for “Favorite Female Latin Artist” and “Favorite Latin Song.”
The biggest miss of the night was Machine Gun Kelly, whose look resembled the Hell Priest from the horror movie “Hellraiser.” MGK wore a Dolce & Gabbana suit with metal spikes all over. Despite his outfit choices, MGK walked away with the “Favorite Rock Artist” award.
Going forward to the next award show, we can only hope that celebrities and their stylists will bring some iconic looks again like they used to.
