On Oct. 17, Mt. SAC women’s soccer hosted the Pasadena City Lancers.
Coming into the contest, Mt. SAC women’s soccer ranks third in the league with a record of 11-2-2.
Mt. SAC squeezed out a late-game victory against the Lancers.
In what looked like a stalemate for most of the contest, action ensued late in the second half. Overall, SAC’s offense totaled 14 shots on goal versus three shots on goal from the Lancers.
The game went scoreless until the last 10 minutes of the game.
With aggression and near misses from both sides, one slip-up defensively cost them the game.
Freshman midfielder Kathryn Davis (17) scored the only goal of the game to secure a Mt. SAC victory over the Lancers. “[I] don’t know what happened, it was blurry. I just cut it and I prayed. Thankfully, I hit it hard enough. It was a weird bounce, but it was good,” Davis said.
The game was a tightly contested battle of defenses but a clean one as no penalty cards or corner kicks were called or issued.
According to coach Juan Sanchez, the game wasn’t that impressive because there were more scoring opportunities that Mt. SAC didn’t get, and he believes it all came down to luck. The Lancers rank 11 in the league with a record of 10-1-4. “Pasadena is a good team. They’re very aggressive,” Sanchez said.
Mt. SAC women’s soccer will face Compton College in another home game this Friday, Oct. 20.
