On Oct. 25, the Mt. SAC men’s wrestling team defeated the Santa Ana Dons to add to their impressive resume of wins.
As a team, SAC outscored the Dons, 41-10, in a landslide victory with six of the wins coming from early pins.
On the mats, it’s impose your will on your opponent or get imposed. Fortunately, SAC did most of the imposing throughout the match.
Sophomore wrestler Alex Ramirez (165 lbs.) believes this to be the case, stating, “Every time I go out there I just try to do me. I don’t try to play into anyone else I just do what I do best I get to my snap downs and the fall,” he said after he secured a backside cradle to pin his opponent in under 45 seconds.
Mt. SAC has dominated so far in their season while continually showing excellence as individuals and collectively as a unit.
Sophomore Chris Calderon (133 lbs.) along with freshmen Adrian Limon (125 lbs.), Pedro Lacerda (141 lbs.), Brian Geiger (149 lbs.), Alex Ramirez (165 lbs.), Nathan Cruz (184 lbs.) and freshman Isaac Lopez (197 lbs.) each won their weight classes for SAC.
Despite the success thus far, there is more work to be done to prepare themselves for their road to the postseason.
“I thought we performed well, anytime you lose any matches you wish you could have won them. Overall the effort was there, two of the matches we dropped were really close. If we had flipped those we could have won nine matches to one,” said Assistant Coach Chris Mecate.
Plans to win state and ambitions to come better every week show how special this Mt. Sac. team is. Freshman wrestler Pedro Lacerna (133 pounds) referred to the team as “Mt. Stacked”.
Mt. SAC will compete at the Bill Musick Open on Saturday, Nov. 4th, as they look for more wins to add to their stellar seasons so far.
