Mt. SAC’s Join-A-Club event was held in front of the Student Life Center on March 12 and 13, encouraging students to join all kinds of different communities.
Join-A-Club is a biannual event where representatives from various clubs encourage students to branch out and join their communities.
Over 20 recognized clubs including the Interclub Council attended the event; everything from the Mt. SAC Pride Club to Mt. SAC Computer Science Club.
Over 200 students walked up and down Miracle Mile while the Radio Broadcasting Program played rock music from their radio station 90.1.
Some of the club members attending the Join-A-Club event spoke on the importance of having communities for students to join and to be welcomed into.
Vanilla Bonilla, a sophomore environmental science major and the current secretary of the Mt. SAC Environmental Action Group for a Livable Earth Club, a student-led environmental recovery group, speaks on just how important it is to allow students to stay involved. “I think it is really important to have communities on campus where students can join and feel like a part of something bigger,” Bonilla said.
Students and advisers encourage students to join communities set out to help them as much as possible.
Victor Sierra, the President of Student Veterans of America, a club whose mission is to help veterans thrive in their civilian lives, gives his perspective on his club’s goal to help veterans. “Our main goal is to help veterans integrate back into civilian life and help veterans find a community on campus,” Sierra said.
