Mt. SAC Women’s Volleyball was on fire Wednesday, Sept. 18 winning against Golden West 3-0 bringing their season record to 8-4.
SAC started off slow, narrowly winning the first set 25-23. After the close call during the first set, SAC dialed in and won the next two sets by over ten points at 25-13 and 25-14.
The first set of the game was not looking too hot for SAC as they were down 17-9. The team’s frustration was evident as they knew they had to make a change.
“We came out really slow in the first set, but we showed that we could come back from that big deficit and take the win anyways,” SAC volleyball coach Samantha Neely said.
Middle-blocker Jordyn Romano (9) took the slow start personally and brought energy into the match with the help of her teammates. Romano (9) had the most kills in the game with 17 kills and a hitting percentage of .440.
“I’m honored, super pumped up, my teammates and setter made it happen,” Romano (9) said when asked how she felt about leading the team in kills.
Outside hitters Emma Carson (10) and Candance Ceballos (11) were on their A game Wednesday night. Carson (10) led the team with 10 digs and brought her teammates together between serves keeping up the high energy. Ceballos had an impressive game as she had 10 kills, 8 digs and 3 blocks along with a kill percentage of .769.
“I’m glad that happened today but my team did amazing it’s because of my team,” Ceballos (11) said
“I love our team […] Jordan and Candace did really good on hitting and our libero is always really good,” Carson (10) said.
SAC competed hard against Golden West finally getting to harness that team connection that they’ve been trying to master. SAC’s next volleyball match is Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 6 pm against El Camino.
