This fall, the Transfer Center is hosting university tours for prospective students in October and November to several California campuses.
Tours included for Mt. SAC students are Cal State Northridge, Cal State Los Angeles, Cal State Fullerton, UC Santa Barbara and UC Irvine.
The tours are intended to motivate students to complete their transfer process. The first tour was held Oct 4 and additional tours will be held on Oct. 25 and Nov. 15.
Registration is now open for currently enrolled students.
Additionally, lunch money will be provided, allowing students to enjoy a meal on campus and explore areas like the bookstore at their leisure.
“We’re collaborating with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Center here at Mt. SAC because there will be a tour and admissions presentation entirely in ASL,” Transfer Center Specialist Paola Benitez said.
According to the Mt. SAC website, requests for accommodations including sign language interpreters, alternative media and mobility services, can be submitted on the registration form or by contacting the Transfer Center.
In addition to the campus tours, admissions will host presentations to share transfer requirements, explain the process and answer any questions that students may have.
“I’m really excited about our UC Santa Barbara tour because in addition to the regular tour and admissions presentation, we will have a Mt. SAC alum hosting a tour for people of color,” Benitez said. “He’s going to share how various student activists have impacted the university and different resources that you wouldn’t typically find on a regular tour to highlight the voices of people of color.”
The Transfer Center aims to expand these tours in the future, potentially including campuses like Stanford if funding permits. However, they frequently rotate the campuses visited each semester based on student feedback and requests.
Students unable to attend shouldn’t be discouraged. The Transfer Center provides many resources such as application workshops. Students can also schedule one-on-one appointments with admission representatives from various UCs, CSUs and even private and out-of-state schools that frequently visit campus to speak with them.
Different universities will host their own workshops tailored to their specific requirements.
