After Mt. SAC Women’s Water Polo’s incredible 22-5 win over the Rio Hondo Roadrunners on Oct. 2, SAC continued their upward climb with another 20-3 win over the Chaffey Panthers on Oct. 9.
With the temperature reaching a high of 87 degrees on a Wednesday afternoon, SAC started the game just as hot as the temperature.
Looking very dominant, SAC scored a whopping nine goals in the first period and only allowed one goal to the Panthers.
Sophomore utility player Gianna Gomez (6) played a big role in making sure her teammates were set up to score, assisting four of the nine goals that were made in the first period. Gomez (6) set up two goals for freshman utility player Vayda Saucedo (8), one goal for sophomore utility player Salma Valle (5) and one more goal for sophomore center Maya Boiarksky (13).
”I definitely thought that there was a lot of good communication and ball movement,” Boiarksky (13) said, “We worked really well as a team.”
As the temperature in the day started to cool down, SAC stayed red hot scoring eight more goals in the third period. Two of those goals were assisted by Arwen Castillo (22), two more were assisted and scored by the duo of freshman attacker Morgan Hove (7) and freshman utility player/attacker Sarah Takacs (15), and two more came unassisted from freshman right wing Calei Rodriguez (18).
“We’re running our plays..setting people up for goals, and making some good assists, so it’s a good all-around team game,” Assistant coach Shane Dominico said about SAC’s performance.
As SAC beat the Panthers 20-3, they are now on a two-game winning streak. With their next game being away on Friday, Oct. 11 against the Golden West College Rustler Sams, SAC intends to keep this positive upward climb.
“I’m very hopeful that we can continue to play like this, especially versus some of the bigger teams…” Boiarksky (13) stated.
“We’ve been doing really well at our home games and conference games, so I think things are coming together for the rest of the season,” Dominico said.
Both player and coach talked about the positive direction the team is heading after this win against the Panthers.
