A decisive victory over the El Camino College Warriors helps SAC maintain a 10-game win streak, pushing the determination and drive of Mt. SAC Women’s soccer team into the playoffs.
Mt. SAC Women’s Soccer team is on a 10-game win streak. SAC was looking into continuing that streak heading into their game against the El Camino College Warriors on Nov. 12.
SAC took no time making their presence known by scoring their first goal 25 minutes into the game. Freshman forward Eden Ramirez (11) put the ball in the back of the net assisted by freshman midfielder Noely Rodriguez (15).
Tag team, Sophomore forward/midfielder Brianna Bernal (12) and freshman midfielder Michelle Vazquez (10) would help put SAC up by two, with Vazquez (10) assisting Bernal just moments after SAC’s first goal ending the half 2-0. After SAC saw the first goal go in, the floodgates opened up because just four minutes later SAC scored another goal 29 minutes into the game.
Sophomore forward/midfielder Brianna Bernal (12) and freshman midfielder Michelle Vazquez (10) were the tag team that scored the second goal, with Vazquez (10) assisting Bernal (12) to make the score 2-0 for SAC going into half time.
But SAC was only getting started on the goal-fest they were about to put on against the Warriors.
Just six minutes into the second half, Bernal (12) wasn’t done making her presence known, scoring another goal in the 51st minute with an assist from Ramirez (11). but this time Bernal (12) was assisted by her fellow first-half goal scorer, Ramirez (11).
Though leading 3–0, SAC’s goalie Anai Olmedo (1), created a wall for the Warriors offense, blocking three shots, keeping them at bay scoreless. Between that time SAC’s sophomore goalie Anai Olmedo (1) made sure to create a wall between the goal and the Warriors, blocking three shots on goal to keep the Warriors scoreless the whole game.
Mt. SAC is averaging a little over three goals a game this season at 3.05 goals to be exact, so the women’s team wasn’t done applying pressure to the Warriors just because they were up 3-0.
Sophomore midfielder/defender Alexandra Allen (20) and freshman forward Sofia Torres (25) put a bow on top of this masterclass performance by scoring two more goals individually and unassisted. Torres’ (25) goal came from a penalty after taking a hard foul by the Warriors goalkeeper in the 90th minute.
With SAC now on an 11-game winning streak, head coach Juan Sanchez said this about how their season is ending, “We really have turned it on and been doing a great job […] we had [paid] attention to detail and we’re able to put away early goals.”
Freshman defender Sarah Brannigan (19) was big on the team being able to execute saying, “I think it was really intense and we kept our mold and […] that we just did what we do in practice and […] executed.”
SAC has their final game of the season against the Pasadena City College Lancers on Nov. 14. They are attempting to cap off their season with a 12-game win streak before going into the first round of regionals.
