SAC baseball delivered a commanding performance against their opponent in a dominant 18-0 victory. From the first inning, Mt. SAC showcased their offensive might and capitalized on aggressive baserunning and defensive miscues to build what would become an insurmountable lead for LA Harbor College.
SAC wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. In the first inning, designated hitter Diego Ortiz’s (5) RBI single brought in outfielder Bryan Bradshaw (24), setting the tone for what would become an explosive game.
The runs kept coming as a passed ball from LA Harbor’s backstop allowed outfielder Miguel Perez (3) to score, followed by an error that let second baseman Tyler Stull (27) cross home plate.
The barrage continued.
After two innings of efficient pitching on both sides, Mt. SAC struck again in the fourth, capitalizing on both timely hitting and defensive mistakes. Outfielder Bryan Bradshaw’s (24) RBI single made it 5-0, and a failed pickoff attempt resulted in another run. Diego Ortiz (5) and Tyler Stull (27) each added RBI hits before the floodgates were opened by left fielder Miguel Perez (3) who delivered a two-run triple, extending the lead to 10-0.
The onslaught continued in the later innings as in the fifth, third baseman Ty Thomas (19) drove in two runs with a single, pushing the lead to 12-0. The sixth inning saw Mt. SAC capitalizing on their offensive prowess again, with Bryan Bradshaw’s (24) RBI single and a sacrifice fly from first baseman Landon White (8) making it 14-0.
While the offense stole the spotlight, Mt. SAC’s pitching staff was just as impressive. Starter Brenden Menchaca (18) tossed a gem on the mound, throwing six innings of one-hit ball while striking out six and not allowing a single walk.
Menchaca later earned the win with this performance moving to 4-1 on the season with a 3.41 ERA.
The bullpen continued the dominance of Menchaca, with relief appearances from Ethan Corral (11), Matt Viveros (14) ,and Josh Torres (10) combining for three no-hit innings. In total, the pitching staff allowed just one hit over nine innings, striking out nine and issuing only two walks for what would become an overall masterclass of pitching.
Mt. SAC continued to pile on in the eighth inning, with Landon White’s (8) two-run single and Ty Thomas’s (19) RBI double stretching the lead to 17-0. DH Diego Ortiz (5) capped the scoring with an RBI groundout, completing the overwhelming 18-run shutout.
