“If we play the fundamental game,” said assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Anthony Gonzalez, “ we’re probably the best team in California.”
This was said after SAC softball bounced back from their previous defeat to the Long Beach Vikings. Defeating the Rio Hondo Roadrunners seamlessly.
April 3 SAC treated the first inning like a warm up. Scoring in every inning after that.
Freshman pitcher and utility player Samantha Vizcarra (21) and freshman pitcher Mariah Figueroa (22) were the two girls pitching, challenging every batter that the Roadrunners put in front of them. Vizcarra (21) was absorbed in SAC’s plan to win as she had nine strikeouts that game. The most she has had in over 11-plus games.
“The girls are doing a good job of staying consistent right now,” said Gonzalez, “so we’re gonna continue to work with that.”

After the first three innings, SAC had put two runs on the board. One in each the second and third innings. The breeze was starting to pick up and SAC wanted to go home, because they would go on to score seven runs all in the fourth inning. Essentially clinching a 9-0 win against the Roadrunners.
The next day, April 4 SAC had a rematch with the Roadrunners. This time at the Roadrunners home in Whittier. But for SAC, being in either Walnut or Whittier didn’t matter as SAC beat the Roadrunners 12-0.
SAC wouldn’t have another day of rest until Sunday with their next game being April 5 against the Orange Coast Pirates. Their third game in a row.
When asked about the gruelling schedule Gonzalez said,”mentally, we’ll be ready to go. We told them in the beginning that some games might pile up, and they do. We don’t take it as a challenge, we take it more like an opportunity.”

SAC would go on to lose 2-1 to the Pirates on the last game of their tripleheader.
The loss wouldn’t keep SAC down for long. As they would beat the East Los Angeles Huskies 14-5 April 7, and the Los Angeles Harbor Seahawks 5-4 the following day.
SAC will look into continuing their win streak with two more games on the road before returning back home, as their next game will be April 10 against the El Camino Warriors.
