As it celebrates 25 years of supporting student-athletes, Mt. SAC’s WIN Program has unveiled a newly remodeled space—marking a fresh chapter in its legacy of academic excellence.
With new rooms converted from former offices and an open-door policy welcoming all students, the updated WIN Program is more equipped than ever to help students succeed both in the classroom and beyond.
“It gives student-athletes a much larger space to work with,” said Athletic Director Joe Jennum, noting that the program’s new location is made up of repurposed offices. The expansion provides student-athletes with more room to study, receive tutoring, and meet with academic counselors—all within walking distance of the athletic fields.
Launched through a partnership between the Adult Basic Education, Kinesiology, and Counseling Departments, the WIN Program is tailored to help student-athletes stay academically eligible and on track to transfer to a four-year university.
The program services around 900 students annually, many of whom show strong retention and an average GPA of 2.75 or higher according to the WIN programs website.
Inside the new space, the program offers tutoring, counseling, and a quiet place to complete assignments, all integrated into each athlete’s demanding practice, academic, and work schedules. Coaches are kept in the loop with regular updates on attendance and academic progress, helping to ensure accountability and support at every level.
But this version of WIN isn’t just for student-athletes. Jennum emphasized that “The WIN is also open to non-student athletes—anyone is welcomed.” That inclusivity reflects a broader vision for the program emphasizing one that supports academic success across Mt. SAC’s campus.
The goal remains clear—help students, especially those balancing academics and athletics, complete their general education within two years and successfully transition to the next chapter of their academic and athletic careers.
With an expanded space for students, a wider audience and continued focus, the WIN Program is living up to its name by helping students where it matters most.
