LA Metro celebrated the opening of four new LA Metro stations on the system’s A-line with a “Rock the Rails” event at the new Pomona station on Friday, Sept. 19 from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Dave Sotero, communications manager for LA Metro said that the four stations located in Glendora, San Dimas, La Verne, and Pomona are the culmination of five years of work and over $1.5 billion.
This extension makes the A-line the longest light rail line in the world. As part of the celebration, the Metro system will be free for riders beginning at 4 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19 and ending at 3 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21.
Each of the stations, while on the same line, have their own unique characteristics. The Glendora station will be a focal point for shopping and entertainment amenities. The San Dimas station features a railway museum. University of La Verne students can take the train to the door step of their school. And the Pomona North station will serve as a transit hub where passengers can make connections to Metrolink trains and Foothill transit buses.
Security and personal safety have been issues for LA Metro in recent years. When asked about this, Sotero said that police and security presence will be increased along with “outreach for homeless services.”
Mt. SAC students can get a free GoPass sticker that enables them to ride not only LA Metro, most of the other public transportation services while they are enrolled in classes.
