A gray overcast Friday morning set the stage as the SAC women’s water polo team got ready to play the Cypress Chargers. Fresh of their fifth win in a row against the East Los Angeles Huskies on Sept. 24, SAC braced for a back-and-forth battle with a hungry Cypress team eager to snap a three-game losing streak.
SAC made sure to discharge the Chargers winning 15-10.
The Chargers would strike the first two blows back to back, making the score 2-0 and that’s all it took to wake SAC up.

After witnessing the energy the Chargers were bringing to the game, SAC would match it. Scoring the next 15 points in the first period of the game with no response from their opponents.
“Would have liked to see a couple more goals go in and a little bit more control,” head coach Chris Jackson said, “but a five goal win is a solid win.”

After SAC went on their scoring marathon in the first period, the next three periods was about playing defense and SAC did exactly that. Only allowing about three goals on average throughout the second, third, and fourth period to the Chargers.
“I think it’s extremely important that I have to be confident, sometimes they’re going to rely on me to block a shot, so I know that I have to be there for them [SAC]”, Sophomore goalie Keira Bozek (1) said.

Even with SAC coming out with the 15-10 win over the Chargers, the team still felt like they had some work to do but still made sure to embrace the win.
“They’re a fun group to work with and we’re learning a lot”, coach Jackson said. “We’ve seen some steady improvements throughout. So that’s all we can ask for.”

SAC would have had another game against the Santa Barbara Vaqueros the next day but fell short 15-7. Their next chance to rise above the waves will be Oct. 1 against the Pasadena City Lancers.
