On Thu, Oct. 23 the El Centro, located in building 16F, will host mural artist Sergio Robleto, who will be talking about his experience in the arts and will give students information on how they can help design his upcoming mural.
Murals have been an integral part of Chicano culture since the 1960s. Oftentimes these murals are used to reflect important figures or moments in history that celebrate diversity, resistance or heritage. Robleto and El Centro wish to bring this tradition to the school and they are asking for students help to do it.
Gio Rodriguez, Director for El Centro had this to say about Robleto.
“He specializes in community art, his process is that he likes to meet community members and hear about their ideas on what should be reflected on the art piece,” Rodriguez said.
Students that want to participate can print out the image below and design their own murals or visit El Centro for a free copy. Finalists will be selected at a later date and more details on submission rules and conditions will be made available during the event on Thursday.
