Judge Orders Trump to Continue DACA Protections

950949420815630336

On Tuesday, Jan. 9, a federal judge in California ruled that the Trump administration had to start the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, program that Trump had announced an end to last September. In his ruling, Judge William Alsup, order the Trump administration to “maintain the DACA program on a nationwide basis,” as legal challenges from California and the University of California continue to go forward in court.

According to the court order, the Trump administration must allow previous DACA recipients to continue to receive protections from the program and renew their status in the program. However, the court order does not allow for new applicants to apply for DACA.
