La Puente Crossfire Injures Woman

A La Puente street off Azusa Avenue was under fire on Saturday, Aug. 26.

A woman was caught in the crossfire, just 0.8 miles away from where a previous shooting near Azusa Avenue had taken place five days prior.

A male passenger in a vehicle saw another man and stepped out of the vehicle to fire at least one shot.

The man he shot at returned at least five shots back, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department spokesman, Sgt, Klein said.

The first man got back in the vehicle and fled westbound. Klein added that neither of the men appeared to be hit, but no detailed description of either suspect was available.

While the men were not hit, a woman who was walking on a sidewalk near Leverett Avenue and Main Street around 6:30 p.m. to 7:10 p.m. was hit. She was struck in the leg around her thigh.

Her injuries were not life threatening, but she was transported to a local hospital where she is expected to recover.

Authorities have not provided any further details and detectives are still investigating the shooting.

KTLA’s Kristina Bravo and Meghan McMonigle first broke this story, and SGVT’s Josh Cain reported further details.
