On Sept. 14, Mt. SAC will host its Community Volunteer Fair with 12 organizations planned to have booths at the event. There are myriad fields of interest for people looking to offer their time and resources for the benefit of others. Whether it’s animals, education, women’s health or all the above, you can find out more at the fair.

For those who enjoy helping their less fortunate neighbors and seeing their volunteer work make an impact in a person’s life, Foothill Family Shelter will be in attendance to give more information about how their organization helps homeless families with shelter and transitioning from being homeless to having a place to live.

Youth Science Center will also attend the fair for those who like to know more about how to give their time to enrich and educate our younger generation. Their organization focuses on providing hands-on help to students in math and science through services like tutoring, field trips and access to technology.

Other organizations in attendance with a focus on youth include the Claremont After School Program, Just Us 4 Youth, Sowing Seeds For Life and Pomona Hope which help by either providing education, mentoring or food security.

Additional organizations attending with a focus on helping adult men and women are VITAS Healthcare for the elderly, Compadres for Tobacco Free LA County, Project Sister for those who have been affected by sexual assault or child abuse, Project Access for families and children in need of health or employment services and Inland Valley Hope for housing and food security for families.

For those seeking to volunteer to help animals, the Inland Valley Humane Society will have a presence at the fair. Their focus is on finding homes for adoptable pets, providing accessible and affordable veterinary care and providing refuge for abandoned animals. They also provide training courses for pets, licensing and spay/neutering services to control animal overpopulation.

The Community Volunteer Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to noon in the grass area between the library (building 6) and the Mountie Café. The nearest parking lot will be on Grand Avenue with additional parking across the street on Temple Avenue.
