Brittany Spears, Taylor Swift or Lady Gaga? Nah, Dua Lipa!

Dua Lipa has solidified herself as one of the most interesting pop stars in the world.

The 28-year-old English and Albanian singer could be the biggest pop star in the 2020s and establish herself as one of the biggest artists this century. Not only does she make hit tracks that you can dance the night away to, she also intersects with other aspects of pop culture that have grown her fan base — including me.

Dua Lipa’s music is characterized by its catchy melodies, relatable lyrics and a mix of contemporary and nostalgic influences. Her voice sets her apart in a crowded pop landscape. She effortlessly blends modern pop with hints of ‘80s and ‘90s dance music, creating a sound that is both fresh and familiar to audiences.

Her previous projects, such as “Dua Lipa” and “Future Nostalgia,” put her on the map in Europe and across the globe. Her songs “Levitating,” “Break My Heart” and “New Rules” became hits and club bangers after they were rereleased. It was hard to not hear her songs played in public areas or on the radio due to their addictive sound and rhythm.

In her latest album “Radical Optimism,” Dua Lipa leans on those tones with songs like “Houdini” and “Illusion” being the standout tracks of her new project. You can rely on her to create music that makes people want to dance and sing as soon as they are played in your headphones or in a social setting.

One new avenue Dua Lipa has participated in is film. It’s not strange to see artists give the big screen a go but many have yet to successfully reach a new stratosphere of popularity through this in pop culture.

Her film appearances include small roles in “Barbie” and “Argyle;” her characters were not essential to the plot of the film but her cameos added some star power to the film. She performs the “Barbie” hit-song “Dance the Night” which became synonymous with the 2023 blockbuster movie.

It’ll be interesting to see if she decides to continue to work on more film projects with an expanded role. Being able to do that successfully will keep her relevant in pop culture and bring more attention to her projects.

As a fan of Liverpool FC, the singer holds a very special place in the hearts of Merseyside fans. The singer’s hit “One Kiss” has become the anthem sung after a team wins a trophy. This came after her performance at the 2018 UEFA Champions League Final in Kyiv where Liverpool faced Real Madrid.

In an interview with WIRED, Dua Lipa called herself an honorary Liverpool fan for how they welcomed her during her performances. During Liverpool’s victory at the Carabao Cup, Reds supporters burst out singing her 2018 hit while flares were out at one side of Wembley Stadium.

Just seeing the scenes at Wembley when this song plays makes me feel so frustrated for missing out on this. Signing my heart to “One Kiss” with 20,000 other people across the pond is at the top of my bucket list.

While other singers have gained popularity, Dua Lipa’s likeability in America and across the pond makes her a contender to make her the artist of the 2020s. The consistency of her projects and songs makes her one of the most reliable artists to play if you’re out socially. Her hits will kick start any party.
