Mt. SAC is one of the top community colleges in California, known for its array of programs and the large amount of available resources. A huge factor in maintaining annulment is Mt. SAC’s partnership with local highschools through the High School Outreach program.

High School Outreach at Mt. SAC is dedicated to connecting diverse communities, providing resources and supporting students in their educational goals. HSO offers services including workshops and assistance with registration for first-time college attendees.

Outreach counselors and representatives regularly visit local high schools conducting informational presentations that help students transition to life at Mt. SAC with ease. HSO representatives also give new students the opportunity to attend “My Academic Planning” Workshops or MAP, which grants students earlier registration dates.

Julia Walker, a member of the MT, understands the purpose of the organization.

“We believe in the transformative power of education and strive to make it accessible to all,” Walker said.

At this time, Outreach is partnered with 53 local high schools, including Diamond Ranch and Walnut High School, helping promote the over 400 programs available at Mt. SAC.

Outreach also offers a program called Connect 4, which is offered to high school seniors and provides fun workshops and registration help. Connect 4 students will receive personalized support and access to an early registration date as well.

Monica Terrazas, an academic counselor at Mt. SAC, gave insight on how important Outreach is for aspiring college students.

“Some of the students might not know what they want to major in, but just kind of just being in that kind of environment exposes them to a lot,” Terrazas said. “I think [high school outreach] is very helpful and impactful.”

Programs like HSO are invaluable because they offer students opportunities to explore various fields, gain practical skills and build networks. These experiences can help them make more informed decisions about their future education and career paths, giving them a head start in reaching their goals.

The HSO program at Mt. SAC is another road to becoming a part of Mt. SAC allowing students to plan for their future and open avenues they may not know about.
