Ghouls shambling through the grass giving people a scare, the smell of popcorn and caramel apples wafting through the air and spooky music hovering just above the voices of the attendees. The sounds and sights of the returning Terror on Main Street event brought in crowds of people, with attendees excited to share their experience . The Terror on Main Street was a carnival-esque event brought to students by the Associated Students, giving students a chance to interact with scare actors, go through a scare tunnel and play games. They also had the opportunity to get their face painted, or receive treats from various booths in the surrounding area.
Many students could find their own thing at the event, ranging from themed music, to the scare actors dressed as zombies and other ghoulish and themed characters jumping out at you. Everyone had something to look forward to.
“Honestly, if I had to say, it would be the food. If it’s something that’s not a part of the event, it’s me swordfighting with these balloon swords I got,” said Ryan Tran, a biology major in attendance.
Sometimes, it’s not always about what goodies you can get from an event, but just as much about what you can experience. Adrian Lopez, another student at the Terror on Main Street event expressed enjoyment for both something in the background, as well as the main attraction.
“The music’s really good, I really like the music. The maze was really fun to do as well, so the music and the maze,” Lopez said, talking about his enjoyment
The general reception from students attending the Terror on Main Street was positive, as many had interesting things to say about their enjoyment of the event in general, a successful event in the Mt. SAC students who attended. I really love this event. I participated last year as a scare actor, and I recognize all these people, all the workers and I think it’s a good community thing for us to do,” Kaia Alvarado said, a world languages major who was there. “It’s fun, if you want to be scared, you can be scared, there’s food, there’s so much stuff for you to do, so I really like it.”
Tran shared similar views, being brief with how much he enjoyed the event, however pointing out that it was a place of connection and that his time there was, “Really good, actually. It’s been so far, met some new people. Honestly, just a chill event where everyone relaxes and dresses up.” said Tran. While this year was great, people always look to the future to see what will happen next, and this event is no different, with students expressing something that they’d like to see more of for the next Terror on Main Street event. Alvarado felt that the tunnel of terror should make a return, though with an expansion and more gimmicks to make it better than it already was. “I would like to see..I heard that it changes for what the students want, and I think..I do like the tunnel of terror, it would be nice to see that next year,” Alvarado said. “But I think I would like to see more stuff like a haunted house, like an interactive thing for you to go through. And for it to be longer.”
Pedro Diaz, a business major and attendee, had a brief though in-character response, calling for more an extension in games and some more candy choices. “Definitely some more booths to play the games, and chocolate that don’t melt. That’d be very nice.” said Diaz Lopez shared similar views, as he also advocated for an increase in games and prizes, “I really liked how last year, there was a bunch of little games I could play,” said Lopez, “So I guess just a bit more games you could play, try to win stuff.”
With tunnels and scare actors, carnival games and places to get your face painted, the Terror on Main Street event was a well earned success for the Associated Students. Don’t scream just yet, as the event will return next year to give you a fright right before Halloween.
