Mt. SAC’s Career Center will be hosting their annual Career Expo on April 7, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., on the third floor of the student center, building 410 in the Summit Room.
Attendees can expect to be able to meet over 40 potential employers from a variety of industries, with names such as Cathay Bank, Hitachi Energy and Panda Express being in attendance.
“We just want to create an event where students can build connections with employers … We know that the workforce and the job market is always evolving and we want to create a comfortable space for our students to build meaningful connections with employers,” Kimberly Cerda, a student support specialist with the Career Center, said.
While not required, it is encouraged that students RSVP via Handshake for the event.
Both employment and internship opportunities will be in attendance, as well as a photobooth for students to have headshots taken and professional resume readers.
“We’re encouraging our students to dress to impress,” Cerda said. “There will be options to interview on site for employment and internship opportunities, so professional attire is recommended. There will also be a clothing closest on site as well for students to utilize.
Students can also utilize the Career Center by taking advantage of their free resume and cover letter printing leading up to the event, in building 9B on the 2nd floor.
While the event runs for four hours, the Career Center recommends arriving earlier rather than later, as there will be more opportunities for “one-on-on time with employers”, but students will still have time “even when it’s busy”, Cerda said.
The Career Center added an Employer Relations position within their department, and “that has helped us a lot in building a lot more connections with employers and getting more registrations for the expo,” Cerda said.
On top of professional opportunities, health, wellness and financial literacy support will also be offered. The Career Center is also including exhibitors who were at their Employer Open House, to help further support students. The Career Center added these resources to “provide the best opportunities while also considering students’ mental and physical health, helping them feel supported and prepared to enter their career paths,” Cerda said.
The Career Expo is a “great opportunity not only for your educational pathway, but also your career pathway … This will help strengthen your skills through internships that employers might offer, so that you can stand out a lot more to employers,” Cerda said.
Questions can be directed to the Career Center in building 9B on the second floor, and students can register for the expo here.
