Internet personality Sister Cindy makes her way through major Southern California colleges to teach her “Hoeology 101” class
Known among college communities for her booming personality and her steadfast beliefs, Sister Cindy is a “preacher” who is trying to connect with students.
Her talks usually consist of preaching about the sins that come with sexuality and “being a hoe.” Her main slogan or teaching is her “Ho-no-mo hoeology 101 class.
It was no different on April 15 at her Cal Poly Pomona appearance, with statements such as “Don’t you dare go to Coachella, it’s nothing but a glorified hoe-fest ” and “Ladies have you completely lost your minds? Well I’m coming for all seven stages of the hoes,” being some examples from her recent statements from her videos.
While she may seem a bit more eccentric on Instagram, she still draws tons of attention for her statements regarding the experience.
In person, she was just as energetic in her speech. However, she seemed to genuinely care about what she was talking about instead of just speaking for attention. She speaks directly to individuals within the audience, alongside having them read her bible for scripture to defend her points
Her talks bring crowds of students hoping to hear what she has to say. Many students visit to laugh at the comments they find absurd, while others visit to agree with her statements, most of it being the latter.
Cal Poly Students Angel and Sahasra from the Young Democratic Socialists of America, spoke about how they felt about the TikTok preacher coming to the campus.
“We think it’s a humorous event that’s good for bringing the community together,” Angel said. “It also calls our side to action so we are out here handing out free condoms promoting safe sex. You can’t fully keep people abstaining from sex its a natural occurrence all we really can do is promote safe sex.”
However the presence of the preacher was also a concern to these two students.
“I would say a lot of alt right memes get commodified and aren’t initially of any concern but the more you interact with them the more you fall down the alt right conservative pipeline,” Angel said.” Luckily we haven’t seen too many people genuinely interested in what message she is pushing.”
There has been an uptick in conservative groups producing with other groups like Turning Point USA, PragerU and the Heritage Foundation becoming more and more prominent in the United States.
These groups are losing ground in the younger audiences as Trump’s popularity continues to fall. People like sister Cindy may continue to find some sort of footing in the online media space as these groups continue trying to rebuild their reputations throughout this area of social media. As of now sister Cindy is continuing to tour different southern California campuses to spread her message to “Ho-no-mo.”
