May the Fourth, also known as Star Wars Day, will offer fans from across the galaxy a plethora of options to celebrate, from movie screenings to raves. Here are a few things you can do.
Academy Museum May the 4
The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures invites Jedi to celebrate the rich film history of Star Wars with a day that includes a meet-and-greet with R2-D2, workshops and behind-the-scenes demonstrations. Dressing up is encouraged, so whether you’re Rebel Scum or an Empire grunt, all are welcome.
SCHEDULE
11 a.m. – 2 p.m.: R2-D2 and BB-8 meet and greet.
12 p.m. – 3 p.m.: Crafting workshop.
12 p.m. – 3 p.m.: Save the galaxy with cosplay for science and Grogu.
2:30 p.m- 4 p.m.: Force show and demonstration.
3 – 5 p.m: Last Chance! R2-D2 and BB8 meet and greet.
Movie Theater Screenings
The force is strong with Brain Dead Studios, where they will host a movie marathon of the original trilogy on the big screen. If you’re ok with traveling somewhere far far away, the Palm Springs Cultural Center will host a screening of “Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope” in the historic Camelot Theater.
Visit Tatooine
Fans who want to visit the desert world of Tatooine need only travel a mere four to five hours to Death Valley, California. To those considering making the voyage, fair warning: Death Valley is one of the hottest places in the world. While it may sound unappealing to some, many people have emerged from Death Valley with a profound appreciation for life.
For those over 21
Scum and Villainy, a Star Wars-themed bar in Los Angeles, will host a karaoke night featuring exclusive drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Geeky singles are invited to join a Speed Dating event for Star Wars fans in Riverside. Harvelle’s in Long Beach will host a cheeky and humorous burlesque show featuring live music. Lastly, Catch One in Los Angeles will host a galactic rave featuring Star Wars-themed beats, effects and costumes.
Stay at home
No matter how loud or quiet you celebrate Star Wars Day, there is something for all fans to do, and if you’re an introvert like me, a night in with family or friends playing Lego Star Wars or watching the best Star Wars movie, A New Hope, is a much more enjoyable use of my time than going outside.
