If you are a fan of Japanese pop culture, then you are no stranger to the many anime conventions that happen each year. SoCal Anime Convention is an upcoming event that will take place this weekend at the Pomona Fairplex. What started as a local car meet has evolved into a three-day long event consisting of all things Japanese pop culture related and more.

This year, SoCal Anime will start its first three-day event on Friday, Sept. 16, and will run until Sunday, Sept. 18. It will be held at Hall 7 and Hall 9 at the Pomona Fairplex. It will begin at 12 p.m. and end at 10 p.m. each day.

There will be voice actor meet-and-greets, a car show, a cosplay contest and more. The voice actors attending SoCal Anime are none other than Megan Shipman who voiced Anya from “Spy X Family,” Amalee who voiced Marin from “My Dress-Up Family” and Natalie Van Sistine who voiced Yor from “Spy X Family.”

The cosplay contest, which will be judged by Akemikun and Tokki, will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17.

If you are interested in competing in the cosplay contest, you can register with no additional cost at SoCal Anime. For attending cosplayers with props, your prop will be checked upon entrance and it must pass the cosplay weapon prop rules.

Throughout the event, there will be many live performances and cosplay gatherings. Some of the special guests who will be performing at the convention include DJ Ali, taiko drum group Akaoni Daiko and many more.

Tickets are on sale right now with two different options, the $35 one-day pass and $70 three-days pass, which can be purchased online.

Upon entrance, attendees will be asked to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative test result that is taken within 72 hours before attending the event. Parking is $10 per car, and a parking pass is available for purchase at Gate 9. There is no official dress code for this event, however, since it will be an indoor and outdoor event, it is encouraged that attendees come in light and comfortable clothing.
